I just finished another book on China, this time about several migrant workers in Xian. I’m reviewing it for the Asian Review of Books and I’ll post about it later.
Since its opening day 5-1 whipping of the defending South Korean champs, Guangzhou has kind of simmered down in the Asian Champions League. It was shockingly defeated by Thailand’s Buriram United, the surprise package of the group so far, and then drew 0-0 with Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol. Go here to keep up with the results.
Finally for tonight, here’s a commentary piece about China with a very obvious title. I like the conclusion- China will not collapse, but it also “does not provide a model for the rest of the world as its admirers might wish.” Don’t worry, I’m an admirer, but not one of these.
