From the NY Times comes the sad news that blogs are waning because of sites like Facebook and Twitter. As a diehard lukewarm (the contradictory terms are deliberate) blogger since 2003 or so, a part of me is sad reading this article. Apparently with the ease of keeping in contact with friends and family through Facebook, many people are disdaining blogging, which requires some effort and time. I still believe in the attractiveness of blogs in allowing the sharing of vast thoughts, knowledge and ideas in written form. I like how the chief exec of the company that commercializes WordPress is quoted as saying that WordPress is for serious bloggers (his exact term), not the younger novices who are defecting to social networking (again his exact words). There’ll always be a strong place for blogs on the Internet, no matter what the skeptics say or surveys show.
