South Africa is facing a set of storms at the moment. Besides the uproar from the media and public over a planned government media tribunal and the controversy over the World Cup stadiums lack of future use, the nation is in the midst of a large public strike that includes nurses, teachers and possibly police. SA is a fantastic country, like I said, but it’s also very turbulent with a lot of serious socio-economic and political issues. It’ll take more than a successful World Cup to fix this, though the widespread patriotism and joy during that event was very genuine.
