South Africa

Some good news in the frontlines in the fight against AIDS happened earlier this week as a vaginal gel developed by a South African couple was found to have some success in a trial involving 889 women in the country’s KwaZulu-Natal province. This success came about only after 11 previous trials had failed over a span of 16 years. Well, good thing they persevered and hopefully the gel can be developed further and marketed cheaply. This will especially be very beneficial for South Africa and the region, which “boasts” some of the world’s highest infection rates unfortunately.
